Rodelinda

2017  |  Opera Design |  University of California, Irvine

Handel's Rodelinda was one the projects for an opera design course. We were encouraged to choose a simple aesthetic "gimmick" that facilitated quick scene changes.

I was inspired by the glowing undersides of cathedral domes, which was worked into a sort of "oculus" that was set into a matte black ceiling that swiveled up and down in different scenes, creating steep or shallow angles that revealed different amounts of light and detail from the oculus above.
